State Border Guard Service of Ukraine: 46,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already entered Ukraine

46,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already arrived in Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations.

Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, told Babel this.

According to him, Hasidic pilgrims began entering Ukraine in the late 20s of August. The peak of their arrivals was observed from September 7 to 10.

On Monday and Tuesday alone, 11,600 Hasidic pilgrims entered Ukraine, and yesterday—13,700. Also yesterday, 1,300 pilgrims left Ukraine.

Last year, nearly 40,000 Hasidic pilgrims came to Ukraine for Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah is the New Year holiday for all who practice Judaism. It is celebrated for two days, and this year it falls on September 11–13.
Hasidic pilgrims travel to Uman because their spiritual leader, Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, is buried there. In his will, he promised intercession before God and happiness to everyone who visits his grave on Rosh Hashanah and prays there.
