Gadyach is another center of Hasidism
Gadyach is a pilgrimage center for Lubavitcher Hasids, or as they are also called Chabadniks – followers of the Chabad movement, which was founded by Shneur Zalman – the Alter Rebbe.
Although Chabad was founded by a native of Lubavitch, it was Gadyach that became sacred for Chabadites, because the grave of the founder, Alter Rebbe, is located here. Shneur Zalman also bequeathed himself to be buried in the city of Gadyachi, although he died near a village in the Bielovsky district of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
The center of Hasidism “Admor-a-Zaken” is known throughout the world and is one of the nine must-see sites for Hasids. In 1991, the first buildings began to appear.
19 Kislev 5772 (December 4, 2012), the “Admor-a-Zaken” center was opened, the opening was timed to the day of the liberation of Shneur Zalman from the Petrograd Fortress in St.Petersburg.
The center was built thanks to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, with the funds of patrons, the main of which was the family of George Rohr living in the USA.
Nearby is the old Jewish cemetery. It was founded in 1810, the last known burial took place in 1939. The prominent tzaddik Alter Rebbe (Shneur-Zalman from Lyad) – the founder of the Chabad movement, is buried in the cemetery.
Many people from all over the world go to the Tzadik’s grave. The main goal of the Admor-a-Zaken center is to provide pilgrims with all the necessary conditions for prayer and enlightenment.
For this, all structures are built according to the laws of religion and construction. There is an opportunity to relax in comfortable rooms and eat in a chic restaurant.
