As of September 7, more than 6,000 Hasidim had arrived in Uman. This year, the city is expecting about 40,000 pilgrims from around the world to celebrate the Jewish New Year—Rosh Hashanah.

According to updated data released by “Suspilne Cherkasy,” more than 7,000 pilgrims had already been registered in Uman as of September 7. The number of pilgrims is growing daily, as a significant portion of Hasidim traditionally arrive several days before the celebrations begin.

Rosh Hashanah in 2026 will begin on the evening of September 11 and last until the evening of September 13. Pilgrims come to Uman to pray at the grave of the spiritual mentor and founder of Bratslav Hasidism, Tzadik Nachman.

Security measures have been stepped up in Uman

During the mass pilgrimage, law enforcement officers are operating on high alert. Seventeen law enforcement officers from Israel have joined Ukrainian police. Together, they patrol the pilgrimage area and help maintain public order.

From September 4 to 17, special entry, exit, and movement restrictions are in effect in Uman. Checkpoints have been set up at the entrances to the pilgrimage area, and traffic has been restricted in certain sections.

City services and charitable organizations are also preparing accommodations and meals for visitors. In particular, one of the largest charitable soup kitchens in the pilgrimage area can serve up to 12,000 people at a time. The main influx of Hasidic Jews to Uman is expected in the coming days.
