A memorandum of cooperation in the field of public health was signed in Uman. It concerns collaboration between the charitable organization “Uman City Historical and Cultural Center Foundation” and the Cherkasy Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The signing took place during a working visit to Uman by Volodymyr Papach, Director General of the Cherkasy Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Cherkasy Oblast.

During the visit, he familiarized himself with the work of the Uman City and District Department of the Center regarding the organization of enhanced epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases in connection with the Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.

Discussions also focused on laboratory and instrumental monitoring of environmental factors, sanitary and anti-epidemic measures, and the implementation of plans related to the safe conduct of the Rosh Hashanah celebration in Uman in 2026.

Separately, Volodymyr Papach met with representatives of the charitable organization “Uman City Historical and Cultural Center Foundation.” The foundation is dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the Jewish people and participates in organizing events related to the visit of Hasidic pilgrims to Uman.

During the meeting with the foundation’s executive director, Iryna Rybnytska, they discussed prospects for further cooperation in developing the public health system in the Cherkasy region, implementing effective measures to protect public health, and coordinating efforts during mass gatherings.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation.

As Iryna Rybnytska noted, for the foundation, such cooperation is an important part of its systematic efforts during the Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman.

“For our foundation, it is important not only to preserve our historical and cultural heritage but also to contribute to practical solutions that help ensure the pilgrims’ safety and the comfort of the local community. Cooperation in the field of public health is particularly relevant during mass events, when clear coordination between services, organizations, and medical professionals is essential,” said Iryna Rybnytska.

During Rosh Hashanah, tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims traditionally arrive in Uman. The large concentration of people in the city requires increased attention to issues of public health and epidemic control, the prevention of infectious diseases, medical care, and prompt coordination among the responsible agencies.

That is why cooperation between relevant agencies, local authorities, medical professionals, and organizations operating in the pilgrimage area is crucial for the safe conduct of festive and religious events.

The foundation emphasizes that it stands ready to continue cooperating with relevant services and institutions to protect public health, ensure the proper organization of the pilgrimage, and guarantee the safety of pilgrims and local residents in Uman.
