A combined law enforcement unit has arrived in Uman to ensure safety and order during Rosh Hashanah. Law enforcement officers will be on duty to ensure public safety and order during the Rosh Hashanah celebrations by Hasidic pilgrims. The joint task force includes representatives from various agencies, according to the Cherkasy Regional Police press service.

Before the officers began their shift, Yaroslav Mezhennnyi, Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Cherkasy Region, briefed the personnel and outlined their main tasks.

Priorities include public safety and order, traffic safety in the city and on the Kyiv–Odesa national highway, the prevention of administrative and criminal offenses, and a rapid response to changes in the situation. Key measures are concentrated at venues hosting religious events and areas where pilgrims are concentrated, along their travel routes, and at checkpoints.

Public safety and order in Uman will be jointly ensured by police officers, members of the National Guard of Ukraine, rescuers from the State Emergency Service, medical personnel from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and representatives of other agencies.

In addition, investigative and operational teams are on duty, and the Situation Center of the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy Oblast is operating around the clock. Police bomb disposal experts and K-9 units are also involved in the operation.

“We have focused our efforts on organizing operations directly in the pilgrimage area, stepped up controls at the city’s entry points, conducted checks on individuals and vehicles, ensured compliance with security restrictions, and responded promptly to any reports. The police will take all necessary measures to ensure that Rosh Hashanah passes safely for both pilgrims and local residents,” said Yaroslav Mezhnyi.

Law enforcement officers are ready to carry out their assigned tasks and will be on high alert throughout the entire Rosh Hashanah celebration period.

Where in Uman Will Vehicle Access Be Prohibited

During the special regime, vehicle access will be completely prohibited on certain sections of road.

The ban will apply to the following routes:

• from the M-30 highway to Uman—on Derevyanka Street, near the “Standard Budivelnnyi” LLC facility;
• from the M-30 highway to Uman—on Gorikhov Street;
• from the village of Rodnikovka to Uman—on Pavlova Street.

Both local drivers and those planning to visit Uman during this period should take these restrictions into account.

Where Enhanced Traffic Controls Will Be in Effect in Uman

In addition to a complete ban on entry along certain routes, enhanced checkpoint controls will be in effect throughout the city.

Enhanced checkpoints will be set up:

• from the M-30 highway onto Derevyanka Street;
• from the M-05 highway onto Yednannia Street;
• from the village of Horodetske in the Palanska Territorial Community—at the intersection of Horodetska Street and Maksym Zaliznyak Street;
• from the M-30 — onto Mykhailivska Street;
• from the M-30 to Vokzalna Street;
• from the village of Rodnikovka in the Palanska Territorial Community — onto Kyivska Street.

Drivers should be prepared for additional checks and possible traffic delays in these areas.

Special traffic arrangements for pilgrims on Vyzvolyteliv Street

A special rule will apply to traffic from the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway to Uman on Vyzvolyteliv Street.

This route will be open only to Hasidic pilgrims.

Therefore, other drivers should choose alternative routes in advance.

Restrictions in the pilgrimage district in Uman

During Rosh Hashanah, the sale of goods that may pose a safety risk will be prohibited in the pilgrimage district.

Specifically, the following items may not be sold:

• alcohol;
• fireworks;
• pyrotechnics;
• knives;
• other sharp or cutting objects;
• air guns;
• toys that imitate air guns.

These restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of public order disturbances and dangerous situations in places where large crowds gather.

The restrictions apply to:

• local residents;
• visitors to Uman;
• drivers;
• transport operators;
• Hasidic pilgrims;
• business owners operating in the pilgrimage district.
