Uman is preparing to welcome Hasidic pilgrims for Rosh Hashanah. In 2026, the celebration will take place September 11–13. Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, announced the preparations.
Amid the full-scale war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine, organizing the pilgrimage requires special coordination. Believers are urged to be mindful of the security situation in the country and to follow established rules.
The main task is practical readiness
According to Ihor Taburets, during a meeting of the relevant commission at the regional military administration, participants agreed on the main areas of preparation for the pilgrimage.
This involves not only organizational issues but also the readiness of services to operate under increased pressure.
Among the priorities are:
- maintaining public order;
- law enforcement operations;
- medical support;
- sanitary measures;
- transportation coordination;
- operation of checkpoints.
Services will operate on an enhanced basis
During the pilgrimage, all relevant services must be prepared to operate at an enhanced capacity. This is important given the significant increase in the number of people in the city and the additional challenges associated with martial law.
Routes are being mapped out separately, infrastructure is being inspected, and those responsible for key areas are being designated.
All decisions will be adjusted based on the current security situation.
An operational headquarters will coordinate efforts in Uman
An operational headquarters will be in operation in Uman during Rosh Hashanah. It will ensure coordination among services, local authorities, and other relevant agencies.
This approach will allow for a rapid response to incidents and help maintain order in the city.
