Pilgrims traveling to Uman should be aware of the new border control procedures

Pilgrims planning a trip to Uman for Rosh Hashanah via Poland should be aware of the new border control procedures at the European Union’s external borders.

This is stated in a letter from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pilgrims.

Since April 2026, the Entry/Exit System (EES) has been in operation at the EU’s external borders. It is also used at checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

This means that all pilgrims will be registered in the system.

During initial registration, fingerprints and other biometric data will be collected. These procedures may increase the time required to pass through border control.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that this is particularly important during periods of high traffic volume, when large numbers of people and vehicles are crossing the border simultaneously.

In addition, pilgrims should take into account the situation at the “Medyka–Shehyni” border crossing, where modernization work is underway. As a result, the number of buses that can be processed is limited.

The Polish side recommends planning your route in advance, choosing appropriate border crossing points, and allowing extra time for the journey.
