In Uman, a mobile shelter for Hasidic pilgrims is being stocked with supplies

In the Hasidic pilgrimage area in Uman, a mobile shelter—which was set up to enhance security during the pilgrims’ stay in the city—is being restocked.

This was reported by the charitable organization “Uman City Historical and Cultural Center Foundation.”

The mobile shelter is located in the area where the largest number of Hasidic pilgrims traditionally gather during Rosh Hashanah. It will be available for use by both pilgrims and representatives of emergency services working in the pilgrimage area.

According to the foundation’s executive director, Iryna Rybnytska, the decision to install such a shelter was made based on the experience of previous years and the security situation in Ukraine.

“Based on the experience of past years, we decided to install a mobile shelter in the area of the Hasidic pilgrimage. It is intended not only for pilgrims but also for emergency services that operate during the pilgrimage and ensure order, safety, and medical and organizational assistance. In the context of the war, the issue of safety is one of the most critical,” noted Iryna Rybnytska.

Plans call for connecting the shelter to the power grid. It will also have electrical outlets so that, if necessary, people can charge their phones, power banks, or other essential devices.

The foundation emphasizes that the mobile shelter was built with the foundation’s funds—thanks to charitable donations from the Hasidic community.

Once the final outfitting is complete, the “Uman Historical and Cultural Center” Charitable Foundation will transfer the mobile shelter to the city as a charitable donation.

Iryna Rybnytska emphasized that this initiative is part of the foundation’s systematic efforts aimed at ensuring the safety and proper organization of the pilgrimage in Uman.

“It is important to us that there be additional safety infrastructure in the pilgrimage area. This is the Hasidic community’s contribution to the safety of people who come to Uman, as well as the services that work on site every day during the pilgrimage. Once the work is completed, we will donate this shelter to the city as a charitable contribution,” said the foundation’s executive director.

The installation of a mobile shelter is particularly relevant under martial law, when people must quickly move to safe locations during air raid alerts.

During the period of mass arrival of pilgrims in Uman, the issues of shelter availability, safety awareness, and coordination among emergency services take on particular importance.

The foundation notes that the mobile shelter is still being outfitted. Once all necessary work is completed, it will be ready for use in the area where Hasidic pilgrims gather.
