Special Considerations for Pilgrimages During Martial Law
Given the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage in 2024 will take place under extraordinary circumstances.
Pilgrims are asked to be understanding of the restrictions imposed by current wartime legislation, including limitations on public gatherings and crowds, long lines at border crossings, and travel restrictions during curfew hours.
To ensure your safety during your stay in Uman, strict restrictions will be in place: Ban on mass gatherings (please refrain from forming crowds) Restriction of the pilgrimage area with entry checks using metal detectors and queues upon entry (similar to airport security checks) A ban on the transport of weapons and explosives A ban on the use of pyrotechnic devices A ban on vehicle entry into the pilgrimage area A ban on the sale of alcohol A ban on the sale of pyrotechnic products, as well as air guns, knives, and toys that imitate weapons; Implementation of a strict access control system for the pilgrimage area; Mobile phones must be turned off upon entering the pilgrimage area
PLEASE NOTE that when walking on the streets or in public places, you must carry a valid form of identification (passport).
PLEASE NOTE that a curfew is in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. It is prohibited to be on the streets or in other public places from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., except when proceeding to a shelter during an air raid alert.
Violators of the curfew will face administrative penalties in the form of a fine, followed by forced deportation from Ukraine and a three-year entry ban.
