The National Police of Ukraine has begun preparations to maintain public order during this year’s Rosh Hashanah celebrations in Uman.

The meeting was attended by Oleksandr Fatsievych, Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine; Maksym Akhrameev, Head of the Department of Preventive Activities of the National Police of Ukraine; Zurab Adeishvili, Director of the Department of International Police Cooperation of the National Police of Ukraine; David Niederman, President of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg and Northern Brooklyn; his deputy, David T. Katz; the rabbi of the Breslov Synagogue in Monroe; and the dean of the “Kol Arya” yeshiva Heskel Kaufman, entrepreneur and community leader from Williamsburg, New York, Yisohar Kaufman, entrepreneur and community leader from the Boro Park neighborhood, New York State, Abraham Kaufman; and Executive Director of the “Uman City Historical and Cultural Center” Charitable Organization, Irina Rybnitskaya.

The parties discussed a set of measures aimed at ensuring safety and public order during the pilgrimage under martial law. In particular, they discussed conducting a broad information campaign among pilgrims regarding the rules and restrictions established in Ukraine during martial law, strengthening security in areas adjacent to checkpoints upon the pilgrims’ arrival, monitoring and escorting vehicle routes to Uman, as well as ensuring law and order at temporary stopover points and directly within the pilgrimage area.

Oleksandr Fatsievych noted that security measures will be strengthened this year, and law enforcement’s priority remains protecting people and responding promptly to any incidents.

“We understand that despite recommendations for pilgrims to refrain from visiting Uman as much as possible, given the war, believers will still arrive for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations. For our part, we have taken into account the experience of previous years and are ready to ensure safety and order,” emphasized the Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine.

Additionally, during the Rosh Hashanah celebrations, Ukrainian police officers will be on duty alongside their Israeli colleagues until the end of the pilgrimage.

The National Police emphasize that cooperation with international partners and civil society organizations is a crucial element in ensuring public safety and law and order at the national level.
