Rosh Hashanah Celebrations in Uman in 2026: More Than 40,000 Hasidim Are Expected

News

This year, Uman is expecting roughly the same number of pilgrims for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations as last year—more than 40,000 people.

Iryna Rybnytska, executive director of the “Uman Historical and Cultural Center” charitable foundation, told Suspilne about this.

According to her, the final number of pilgrims is not yet known, as people are still making preparations for their trips, and logistics remain challenging due to the war and the no-fly zone over Ukraine.

“We don’t have it yet. There are certain challenges, and pilgrims are still preparing for their trips. We don’t have the final number yet, but we expect roughly the same number as last year,” said Iryna Rybnytska.

Rosh Hashanah in 2026 will take place from September 11 to 13. Hasidim traditionally travel to Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year at the grave of Tzadik Nachman—the founder of Bratslav Hasidism.

Preparations for the pilgrimage were already discussed during an interagency working meeting held on July 14 and chaired by Viktor Yelensky, Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.

The meeting participants addressed issues related to security, logistics, border crossings, public order, and the pilgrims’ stay in Uman.
