The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Hasidic pilgrims planning a pilgrimage to Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations to take into account the complex security situation in the country. This was reported by the Ministry’s press service.
The Ministry emphasizes that Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing for more than four years. Ukrainian cities and communities are regularly subjected to massive rocket attacks, assaults on civilian and transportation infrastructure, as well as acts of sabotage and provocations by Russia.
Under these conditions, the Ukrainian authorities cannot guarantee full security for foreign citizens on Ukrainian territory.
Despite this, tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims arrive in Uman every year for Rosh Hashanah to visit the grave of Tzadik Nachman, the founder of Bratslav Hasidism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges everyone planning a trip to responsibly assess the risks, familiarize themselves in advance with the rules for staying in Ukraine during martial law, and take into account possible restrictions.
A legal regime of martial law is in effect in Ukraine, which entails additional security measures. Specifically, these include a curfew, restrictions on freedom of movement, increased patrolling, a ban on mass gatherings, and the possibility of enforcement measures against individuals who fail to comply with the established requirements.
If necessary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends obtaining additional information regarding the pilgrimage to Uman from the relevant Ukrainian authorities and agencies.
