Initially, several hundred or several dozen Hasidic pilgrims entered Ukraine each day, but the largest influx was recorded in the days leading up to the holiday.

Specifically, on September 9, 13,700 Hasidic pilgrims entered Ukraine. Another 11,600 people arrived in total on Monday and Tuesday.

The State Border Guard Service clarified that these figures refer specifically to organized groups of pilgrims. If foreigners cross the border on their own and border guards cannot confirm that they are heading specifically to Uman, such individuals are not included in these statistics.

The largest influx of pilgrims traditionally occurs a few days before the start of Rosh Hashanah. In 2026, the holiday begins on the evening of September 11 and will last until the evening of September 13.

Every year, Hasidic pilgrims come to Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year at the grave of Tzadik Nachman of Bratslav.

According to Andriy Demchenko, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has not recorded any emergencies related to the arrival of pilgrims. At the same time, 13 Hasidim were denied entry into Ukraine for various reasons, as foreign nationals must cross the border in accordance with the general provisions of Ukrainian law.

Currently, pilgrims are most actively using border crossing points on the borders with Poland and Romania. Until September 7, the majority of the flow went through Moldova, but in recent days the direction has shifted toward European countries.

According to forecasts, more than 40,000 Hasidic pilgrims may arrive in Ukraine this year. The State Border Guard Service will be able to provide the exact number once the main influx of arrivals has subsided.

More than 31,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already arrived in Ukraine; they are traveling to Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year—Rosh Hashanah.
