This is stated in a letter from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that, starting in April 2026, the Entry\/Exit<strong> System<\/strong> (<strong>EES<\/strong>) has been in operation at the EU\u2019s external borders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This system is also in use at checkpoints along the Polish-Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n<h2>What the EES Means for Pilgrims<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The EES system requires travelers to be registered when crossing the European Union\u2019s external border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">According to the Polish authorities, all pilgrimage participants crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border will be registered in the system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">During initial registration, the following information is collected:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>fingerprints;<\/li>\n<li>other biometric data;<\/li>\n<li>information required for border control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why border crossing may take longer<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Additional procedures may increase the time it takes to go through border control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This is especially true during periods of heavy traffic, when large groups of pilgrims are simultaneously traveling to Ukraine or returning from Uman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Therefore, Polish authorities advise against planning a tight schedule and recommend allowing extra time for border crossing.<\/p>\n<h2>Which border crossings may be busy<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A separate factor is the situation at the <strong>\u201cMedyka\u2013Shehyni\u201d<\/strong> border crossing, where modernization is underway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Due to restrictions in Medyka, some bus and truck traffic is being rerouted to other border crossings, particularly <strong>Malchowice<\/strong> and <strong>Kroscienko<\/strong>. This may increase congestion there as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">When returning from Uman<strong>,<\/strong> the Polish side recommends using the <strong>\u201cKorchova\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>\u201cBudomierz\u201d<\/strong> checkpoints whenever possible<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Where to Go After Uman<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Poland advises pilgrims on their return:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>choose <strong>\u201cKorczowa\u201d<\/strong> whenever possible;<\/li>\n<li>choose <strong>\u201cBudomierz\u201d<\/strong> if possible;<\/li>\n<li>avoid <strong>\u201cMedyka\u201d<\/strong> if possible;<\/li>\n<li>take the EES system into account;<\/li>\n<li>plan your trip with plenty of time to spare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpm_excerpt clearfix\"><p>Pilgrims traveling to Uman for Rosh Hashanah via Poland have been warned about new border control procedures at the European Union\u2019s external borders.
